Ecademy Press is a cooperative publisher. We use Print on Demand technology to minimise the need for expensive stock and manage the production process so that you don’t have to become a publisher to get your book published. For a fixed fee, we design your cover and the look of your book, put them together, set them up at a quality printer and arrange distribution through a reputable book wholesaler.
How does this differ from Mainstream Publishing?
Mainstream publishers will invest in an author, possibly even paying an advance. With this commitment, they will be looking for the top sellers in their category and have a limited number of books they will publish each year. All the costs of the book will be repaid from sales before the author receives a penny in Royalty. If you can get a deal with a mainstream publisher, this may be the right move for you. Remember, however, that they work to a timescale which may be anything from 9 months to a year or even longer.
Does that make you a Vanity Publisher?
At the other end of the scale, vanity publishing takes money to produce books with no commitment to marketing and no expectation of sales beyond your initial order. We fit somewhere between the two. Technology is now making it possible to produce books on demand, so we don’t produce a large print run that sits in your spare room or garage, we print books as you need them.
Why not Self Publish?
Some authors are self publishing, producing books for themselves and marketing them at events and speaking engagements. It is now easier than ever to produce your own book. You do, however, need to get to grips with the process and manage the sub-contractors who will help to produce the book. Another consideration is whether you can cope with the job of fulfilling all book orders yourself. If you think it would be nice to let someone else worry about all that and just send you the royalty cheques, then cooperative publishing may be better for you.
Cooperative Publishing – Fixed Fee, Quality Result
We produce books on a regular basis, have a relationship with the key people in the process including Designers, Typesetters and, of course, the Printer. We provide an ISBN for every book and ensure that it is properly applied to the cover as a barcode. We also have access to Editors, Indexers and Proof Readers whose services you can engage directly or through us.
Marketing and Selling
Our website provides a marketing and selling channel and we are developing a collaborative relationship with Amazon. All of our books are available to order through bookshops and all appear on the Amazon.co.uk site. Most will now also appear on other Amazon sites around the world. We can also introduce you to marketing expertise (in the UK and the USA ) to maximise your sales.
Books for ‘Back of Room’ or other Purposes
For books that you order for resale or giveaways to clients, we will quote you a very favourable author price, reflecting the costs of production. The fixed fee means that there are no costs to be covered before we pay you a royalty on sales we make on your behalf. Please note, however, that royalties are not payable on author purchases.
Royalties
Royalties are paid on an agreed percentage of net profit. Net profit is the retail price less wholesale and retail costs and the author price.

We are here to ensure that our authors are successful. We do not accept every book offered to us but we do assess each submission on its merits. Ecademy Press is run by people who read (and write) books and who have a passion for the written (and printed) word.
