The Heart of Business Success by Robert Copping
People who set up their own business are usually talented and motivated – so why do most fail to achieve any notable level of success? Almost everything in business has some dependence on everything else and making the right decision at the right time is like a Catch-22. This book introduces the ‘heart of business success’ and shows how you can apply it to make business decisions that break into the circularity of each Catch-22 to increase your chance of success.
Vijay Patel, quoted in the Sunday Times Rich List at £500 million and one-time Ernst & Young ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ says:
Entrepreneurs spend inordinate amounts of time thinking and worrying about their business. Time spent reading this book will be priceless and a must!
Stuart McGreevy, Millionaire businessman and previous London Stock Exchange nominated ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ says: Adopting this ‘balanced’ approach has the potential to quite literally transform your business life. It will help you identify and laser focus on to the key business drivers which will make or break your business.
Knowing and understanding the dynamic co-relationships of these drivers will help you know how to clearly build and leverage your business to its full potential.
About the author
After graduating in Physics, Robert began his career with British Aerospace as a Technical Engineer and progressed to the project management of multimillion pound, multinational contracts.
Robert then joined a subsidiary of the Rank Organisation looking after an international team of Sales and Project Managers for entertainment lighting projects. When the company was acquired by Schroeder Ventures, Robert became Global Projects Director. During this time, he learned a great deal about how Venture Capitalists tend to operate, which has since proved invaluable when helping his clients apply for venture funding.
In 1999 Robert established Paradigm Management Consultants and clients included the UK’s Ministry of Defence, but it mainly helped small companies to grow.
It was during this period that Robert became aware of the appalling failure rate of small businesses. He also discovered that most owners of small businesses believed that it was difficult to find really effective advice that was also affordable.
Robert set his mind on devising a way to deliver an effective Business Development Service at a price that was affordable to small businesses, yet was also able to generate sufficient revenues to remunerate top quality advisors.
These twin objectives seemed mutually exclusive, which mirrors the Catch-22s covered in this book. But Robert believed that if he could find a solution, he would really be able to help small businesses to become more successful and so this became his quest.
After many years and a lot of effort, as well as a substantial amount of cash, Robert and his team succeeded in developing the process and system to achieve his goal.
In 2006 Robert launched Sightpath Limited and began recruiting Business Catalysts to deliver the service. He and his team have now modelled a large number of different businesses and created many Business Development Plans. Much of the content of this book has been derived from this work.
Robert is currently still at the helm of Sightpath and speaks regularly to business groups on how to ensure they succeed. Robert is also an Expert Partner with the firm Financial Professional Support Services (FPSS).
